About Lenora Thom

Lenora Thom is a music director, conductor, pianist, organist, arranger and teacher whose busy career began in New York City and continues in Western North Carolina.

 

For over 20 years, Ms. Thom was in great demand in the New York City area, where she held positions as Music Director of the New Jersey Choral Society, Assistant Conductor of the Stamford (CT) Symphony, and Music Director of the Kean (NJ) and Riverdale (NY) Chamber Orchestras.  Ms. Thom has conducted over 100 musical theatre productions for off-Broadway, regional, summer stock, and university theatres.


An award-winning pianist, Lenora has performed in recital, cabaret, and chamber music concerts throughout the Northeast, and continues to do so in WNC. For 15 years, she was the studio accompanist and coach in several preeminent voice studios in New York City, accompanying and teaching thousands of singers in opera, art song, musical theatre and popular music.  During that time, Lenora was also a busy coach and accompanist for Broadway and opera auditions.  Ms. Thom served on the music faculties of William Paterson University (NJ), the Fieldston School (NY), and the Asheville Performing Arts Academy (NC).

 

Ms. Thom has held positions as Music Director of the Asheville Choral Society, Assistant Conductor of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, Musical and Vocal Director of the Flat Rock Playhouse, Chorus Master of the Asheville Lyric Opera, and Music Director of the Asheville Community and Hendersonville Theatres.  
Lenora is a frequent guest conductor and musical director for choral and theatre groups throughout WNC. She maintains a vocal, piano and conducting studio in Hendersonville, and finds time for musical arranging and for recital work as well. 

 

Lenora’s professional music career began when she was appointed Assistant Organist at her home church in Maryland at the age of 10.  Since then, 
Ms. Thom has held numerous and continuous Director of Music/Organist positions at churches and synagogues in Maryland, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina.  Lenora is well versed in Episcopal, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Unitarian Universalist and Reform Judaism traditions.


Ms. Thom studied at Juilliard, the Hartt School of Music, Trinity College, the Cedardell Opera Institute, and the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors.
